Runners making their final preparations for the big day after months of training can claim a free portion of pasta this Friday on Deliveroo from Italian To Go restaurant Coco di Mama at 130+ locations across the UK. This comes as data commissioned by Deliveroo reveals pasta tops the list of most popular dishes to eat before a long run.
In a survey of 500 runners, 62.8% said pasta would be their meal of choice ahead of a long-distance race, followed by eggs and chicken.
A spokesperson from Deliveroo said: "We're so excited that thousands of runners will be back on the streets this weekend for the challenge of a lifetime. We'll be joining as the nation comes together to cheer them all on - whether that's from the pavements or through the telly!
To celebrate all those brave runners taking on the challenge of a lifetime this weekend, Deliveroo and Coco di Mama are giving away 1,000 vouchers to claim free pasta.
The vouchers are redeemable against any of the 130+ Coco Di Mama locations around the UK, including London, Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Bristol, Cambridge, Newcastle and many more (see notes to editors for full list of locations).

London Nutritionist, Lily Soutter explains why eating a meal with high energy properties ahead of a running race is a popular ritual for many runners:
"Pasta is an excellent pre-run meal as it's a rich source of complex carbohydrates providing energy to fuel our run. Carbohydrates break down to sugar within the body and store as glycogen in liver and muscle cells. Glycogen is an energy source and topping up our stores with carbohydrate-rich pasta is a little bit like filling up a car with petrol before a journey. If glycogen stores are low it can lead to 'hitting the wall', resulting in fatigue whilst reducing the intensity at which we can run."
"If embarking on a marathon, recovery nutrition after training sessions is key. The faster we begin to refuel, the quicker our body will recover, which is important for those who are training more than once a day. Our body is 1.5 times faster at converting dietary carbohydrates into glycogen within the first two hours post-run. Pasta is an easy carbohydrate-rich dish that can be whipped up within minutes, making it a popular choice among runners. Why not try adding a protein source to your refuel meal to boost glycogen storage by a further 40%? Thankfully the versatile nature of pasta means it can be enjoyed with a wide range of delicious protein sources, you can never get bored!"
The voucher code RUNPASTA5 will go live on Friday 1st October at 12:00pm/midday. 1,000 vouchers max. One redemption per Deliveroo account. Geographical restrictions and delivery fees apply. Spaghetti, set, go!
