- The baked classic is back in the foodie game, as more and more Brits are choosing the traditional British bake for lunch and dinner
- In time for National Pie Week, Deliveroo reveals a massive 201% uplift in pie orders over the past 6 months
London, UK - News just in - pies are on the rise. And it's been a long time coming - the humble British classic has taken a backseat in recent years as the likes of burgers, thai and sushi have filled the UK's dinner plates. But good news for all those pie-hards out there - the delicious pastry dish is back, and it's back with a vengeance. Just in time for National Pie Week, Deliveroo has revealed that orders of the comfort-food classic have rocketed by 201% in the last 6 months.
And while there's certainly been an increase in more 'modern' variations of the revered dish (from gluten free pastry to vegan fillings), Deliveroo data shows that it's the good ole' classics that really get the British public's mouth watering.
Steak and kidney takes the lead, making up almost a quarter of UK pie orders, followed in close second by the humble apple pie, and a creamy chicken and mushroom centre taking third place.
Fourth place sees the battle of the fusion pies, as the banana and toffee (Banoffee) combo goes head to head with Scottish pasta/pie favourite: the macaroni pie.
Deliveroo data has also revealed that the country's pie preferences vary from region to region:
Joe Groves from Deliveroo said 'The unsung hero of British cuisine is finally getting it's moment in the limelight, and we love it! Whether you're serving yours with a dollop of mash, drizzling it with gravy or tucking into a sweet slice for dessert, we have it all on Deliveroo.'
